ATHENA was founded in 2002 to provide management assistance to state and local human service agencies. Since 2002 ATHENA has provided temporary staff to a variety of human service agencies. In this capacity, ATHENA develops position descriptions and manages all recruiting, screening and hiring staff. Ms. Melissa Pappas, founder and President of ATHENA Consulting has twenty plus years working with senior management professionals and state government cabinet secretaries in the role of recruiting, and strategic planning. Ms. Pappas has placed staff with state and local government in the areas of child-support enforcement; welfare reform; welfare to work; child care; and child welfare. Ms. Pappas holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Chicago. Currently, Ms. Pappas’s roles and responsibilities include directing the growth of the company, creating quality- driven company policies, seeking and implementing new innovative ideas and representing ATHENA within the industry. Most importantly, Ms. Pappas spends considerable time meeting with clients and developing effective working relationships. An avid advocate of cross training as a methodology for reduced job boredom and increased productivity, the use of cross-training extends beyond ATHENA’s corporate staff and is used with many of ATHENA’s associates. Thus, ATHENA’s associates are more flexible than is generally true in the industry. Indeed, ATHENA’s full-time staff is cross-trained to step over into their co-workers’ roles and responsibilities. This approach ensures maximum operating efficiency. ATHENA’s experience in providing quality services has led it to understand the importance of several key principles that are relevant to this effort.
The recruiting, screening and presentation of candidates is directed by Ms. Lillian Golden, Director of Recruiting. Ms. Golden has worked in human resources area providing management solutions for more than twenty years for large corporations. In her roles she has been responsible for recruiting senior and mid level executives, and managers, labor relations, payroll, benefits administration, training, and union relations. Ms. Golden holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from American University. Ms. Golden is responsible for overseeing the recruitment and personnel functions of ATHENA. She is responsible for hiring and training recruiters, maintaining regular contact with clients, and actively seeking recruiting sources. She is committed to providing excellent customer service to ATHENA’s clients, and diligently seeks to assist individuals who may have minimum access to career opportunities.
Ms. Elise Williams, HR Specialist has more than nine years of office administration and accounting experience. She manages the full day-to-day transactional accounting responsibilities including G/L, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer billing, and collections.Ms. Williams plans, organizes and manages employee benefits and human resources activities. She resolves any issues concerning payroll, answers employee and customer inquiries, and enforces payroll policies. She establishes and maintains appropriate procedures for the accurate maintenance of the general ledger and payroll processes, and works closely with Infiniti on maintaining the payroll records. Ms.Williams coordinates processing and/or set up for garnishments, child support, levies, direct deposit, W-4 information, and works closely with the Recruiting Department regarding new hires, employee status changes, and terminations.
